Your survival system is reacting from over carbon dioxide exhalation, putting your life in danger.

You, in the "over-exhaling" habit has left your blood without sufficient carbon dioxide to deliver oxygen to cells and has left brain and cells oxygen starved.

Your survival system is now desperately trying to save you from your faulty "over breathing" actions and is using a body defense survival technique that has been labeled as "Asthma".

(Your bodies survival system defense to try to stop you or stop the effects of you continuing the practice of over breathing, and starving your body cells to death.)

If you do not wise up and continue this practice of making your body in eminent danger to your very survival by this acquired habit of over breathing, namely constantly over ventilating (hyperventilating means going crazy) often ventilating enough for 5 or 6 people.

The resulting over supply of oxygen in the lungs, posses little problem. It is the simultaneous "over exhaling" of the bodies supply of carbon dioxide that is the problem.

You survival system is trying to save your brain and cells being starved of oxygen delivery in the blood, because of carbon dioxide totally depleted, by over exhalation.

To do or accomplish this, your survival system escalates defensive measures. First, "Stopping up the nose," That failing it then inflames bronchial airways in constant readiness to diminish air input making the inflamed airway hyper susceptible to allergens, which are then contributors but usually incorrectly blamed as the reason for the attack.

inflamed restricted airways failing to restrict the over breathing, mucous and muscle spasms to stop over breathing are added as a further defense to slow or cut your over-breathing.

Breathing slowed, you panic, and figure you are going to die of oxygen shortage. The natural idea is to try to speed and improve breathing rate, force open your airways, compounding the problem.

This effect of lack of carbon dioxide is NOT something we or Buteyko dreamed up. It is an accepted body process fact necessary for blood to deliver oxygen to cells.

What we are saying here is that your subconscious automatic breathing control has by something going in your life in the past, likely been under stress, or for some reason, (faulty belief or thinking), that if you breath deep and faster you will be better able to handle whatever is being thrown at or dumped on you. So, you did that during some stressful situation, which your survival system considered life or death, (correct assumption or not) and you survived. Your automated system has picked that up incorrectly as an aid to survival when it is the opposite.

Not your bodies own action is self defeating, (degenerative diseases kill over 80% of Americans and these are all (mistake) self killers).

Physically or emotionally stressed perhaps. You inadvertently got programmed wrong.

Being hyper or over worried or stressed for periods of time, you may have developed an automatic response that has gotten worse over time and is NOW your involuntary (subconscious mind) controlled breathing system activated particularly under stress of perceived danger.

This is automatic now and is referred to as involuntary breathing. You do not do it because you are thinking about doing it now. It has become an automatic auto response.

This "over breathing" is often accelerated many times the actual ventilation you need to do whatever it is you are doing. The over breathing in oxygen in, as we said, is NOT the problem at all.

The serious problem that results that is causing asthma defense reaction is your brain and other body cells are dangerously starved of oxygen, because you have been habitually over "Exhaling" carbon dioxide, so that your blood can no longer successfully carry adequate oxygen to your cells, despite you have lungs over full of oxygen.

This over breathing is an incorrect breathing habit. Your involuntary mind has picked up and to fix this, the incorrect breathing habit must be "unlearned".

This "unlearning" an established pattern that is the equivalent of a very bad habit, is something that so far you have to do your self. 40 years ago the current manual "retrain yourself" system Dr. Buteyko developed was found to work for most and all who were able to persist through repeated efforts to get their subconscious to switch to normal breathing.

The treatment to reprogram developed 40 years ago before extensive scientific studies, etc., has not since then been extensively updated or improved.

This manual extensive repetetive exercises and drills, a method, of repetition, of reprogramming developed by Buteyko, now in the last 40 years, it has been subject to studies in Russia, Australia, and recently in Canada. Thousands of people and instructors and participants have had experience with it and every single person in the studies in several countries have all reported (as well of newspaper accounts of observing classes) 100% of participants, have all reported a great improvement in quality of life, whether completely overcame over breathing habit totally or not, many just partially.

We cannot recall ever reading any studies that there was not some who noted NO effect at all. This is 100% positive result.

Particularly since this is difficult and requires considerable stick to it.

Correcting over breathing has been extensively tried and proven in other countries such as Ireland. Buteyko's discovery of "the cause of asthma"has been scientifically verified in many countries, and his treatment, that was a single handily developed solution, works for most but is cumbersome and needs refinement.

Using the Buteyko, rather manual "exercises and drills," this method for most does reach a point of correcting the involuntary system at least to some degree for all, and completely for those who stick with it.

Most difficult to effect a total cure for long term older asthmatics, who must unlearn a lifetime of incorrect breathing, where as children who have only had asthma a short time seem to be able to reprogram incorrect inappropriate breathing and get it corrected in a short time, in one lesson or two, to stop their asthma, almost immediately.

This can be done in a brief period of time for some, just as you can use this method to correct other bad automatic habits you have been trying to fix for years. For some, they have not been able to stop doing something or habit need to be stopped, no matter how hard they try.

Therefore, learning this method of Buteyko's development in a reasonable time to change your programming that is working against you, requires the expenditure of much effort which some are not willing to do.

Buteyko's practicing and practicing over and over repetitive drills will usually correct most incorrect breathing.

This, however, is just one of the several ways to reprogram your subconscious mind when it has somehow gotten miss-programmed.

Whether it be by self visualization, self instruction of the subconscious of the wrong information, or the wrong assumption or belief, has developed the wrong automatic action or automatic habit.

This mistaken incorrect habit, no matter how acquired, is resulting in harm to your health, and this modification technique (programming correction) is something called: the Buteyko Method.

We discuss using affirmations to reprogram elsewhere, will work but may take longer to reprogram, unless you realize from Buteyko study of the precise steps and subject for the automatic change back to normal breathing.

It is already proven you can use the manual Buteyko practice type sessions, often taking for months of practice, to get your subconscious to stop over-breathing or whatever it is you are wanting to change.

Self Guided Imagery, Self Hypnosis, Self visualization, Relaxation Response, all are basically the same thing.

This technique is like a hypnosis to get your mind in a relaxed state, quieted down and subject to suggestion to make these changes. You must study Buteyko's principals to get across to your auto involuntary body program system what changes are necessary.

Once you are clear on what changes of instructions to make to your subconscious mind, you can have this done by a pro hypnotherapist, you can use yoga techniques, you can use audio tape or computer, message recorded by yourself from your own script.

The tape examples of self hypnosis starts out bringing your self to a totally relaxed state and then makes suggestions that you see yourself (if you are an asthmatic for example) doing things such as participating and having a big time succeeding at sports, something you likely have not been able to do because of your asthma.

You see yourself (guided visualization) (while listening to these audio tapes,) breathing slower and shallower, you see yourself every day getting more relaxed, less and less over breathing and you see yourself learning to do this automatically, naturally and fully comfortable doing it.

You see yourself developing complete control of and stopping over breathing.

Getting such good results, of no more attacks, no more wheezing.

You see yourself disposing of medication, never needing it again. These are all the type of suggestions you will write in your script, that you read into a tape.

You then play the tape and get in a relaxed state, two or more times a day, going through listening to the entire tape, repeating this routine for a week.

By the end of one week (or even days) you should see some dramatic changes.

Tape may be any length but usually 3 or 4 minutes. You should have dramatic change in a week. You may never need it again. If you do, just replay it again a time or two more as you add new material.

Self Hypnosis, or which of the names you want use above, is you being self guided in using (with your mind relaxed) the suggestion that in ones imagination to visualize specific behaviors or events occurring in ones life. You will need to study Buteyko information to see what changes are to be subconsciously brought about. You then suggest your subconscious will make them happen effortlessly and completely.

If you can visualize them intensely your subconscious will accept them and bring them about.

The idea is to create a detailed (in your minds eye,) visualization of what you want to happen (desires) and then repeating this visualizing it over and over again with all the senses, see, feel, smell, etc.

This can be used for many things from changing a habit, to stop smoking, to pass a test, etc. or change your desire for sweets, if a diabetic, if an asthmatic to automatically slow your breathing to normal and stop hyperventilation, that you will see yourself putting into practice what you are learning about the Buteyko method of slowing breathing.

As a diabetic you will see yourself readily adopting a new method of handling input of food, eating as much of correct foods, any time you are hungry, understanding and timing, blending, enjoying drinking water often, etc. You will see yourself getting off medications and doing things you were not able to do in the past.

You will visualize your blood sugar readings dropping to healthy levels.

You can correct more then one thing in a tape listening session by putting the right suggestions in your script.

Use first person, present tense, Guided Visual Imagery, or some call it guided visualization. This is just opening discussion. We will have much more coming on this subject.

Control of your voluntary or conscious mind are eats, drinking, breathes, and sleeping.

All of these must be done correctly by the thinking conscious mind and are then turned over at some stage and totally handled by the automatic mind.

Do those right and think right in a health way so unconscious mind gets right physical input and the right signals...the unconscious then performs all flawlessly.

The resulting Man is then automatically fitting the term: " WELL".
