Curing Asthma: Breathing Reprogramming

This article is about curing asthma simply, naturally, cure asthma attacks forever, and stop unnecessary medication.

Several studies and trials in Russia, over the years all verified at least 80% greatly helped, ALL improved. Australian trial set up by medical society to prove method ineffective, came in with same 80% "greatly Improved" figures. 100% some benefit recent 2008 Canadian study under strict standards again verifies its effectiveness with similar figures.

Our research indicates the Buteyko discoveries 40 years ago give you the true understanding of what transpires when you have asthma and asthma attacks. 

They are basically defining asthma as simply caused by "involuntary hyperventilation." Eliminate this in a patient and you have eliminated asthma.


The Buteyko method is to gradually train (repetition exercises) your automatic breathing control system to tolerate higher carbon dioxide levels and not hyperventilate. 

To accomplish this you practice, with the Buteyko method, repeatedly practice to perfect doing shallow breaths through your nose (no more mouth breathing). 

This is over simplification but gives you a primary understanding of what is happening.
The major exercise is for you to do two breaths and on the second exhalation; you practice a pause, *(hold your breath) extending the pause before the next breath for as long as comfortable, which will be relatively short initially. 

You will, however, greatly extend it as you practice over days or months. Becoming more comfortable for longer periods before breathing in again.

The goal is increasing the length of time the pause was held over your practice sessions and each time you practice being able to extend it further and further working up to a goal of being able to do 60 seconds, etc. comfortably. 

If you have a stop watch, and are in good enough health to hold your breath for long periods, try this yourself with a stop watch.

There are qualified teachers trained by the Buteyko firm and they must have worked and trained with 56 trainees before going on their own.

Many participants believe this is very difficult learning process and feel you need the support and corrections, of a teacher. 

It should be noted these teacher "practitioners" as they are called do follow up with you for 18 months on your progress by phone.

This project may be that many people learning this, modification of a lifestyle, like in AAA (alcoholics) will not make it through the rather disciplined practice necessary here to accomplish it and stick with it to essentially reprogram yourself, solely on your own. You can, and many do, learn and induce a shallower automatic involuntary breathing pattern solely through the nose, following strictly the practice sessions from the books, videos, etc. 

Most that accomplish it fully, with or without a teacher, all say it was difficult in re-establishing the self modification of this involuntary body operating system change.

It seems to matter not how far or how close they came to be successful in accomplishing their goal, that no matter how far they did or did not get.
All reported considerable improvement in over all quality of life and in getting off prescriptions. Therefore, you could say even those failing to fully accomplish the training still gain much benefit.

The goal is to stop your automatic breathing operating system to stop hyperventilating, tolerate higher carbon dioxide levels automatically, and not re-breath when there were low levels of carbon dioxide.

You learn how to stop and/or diminish an attack right off early. 

Accomplish complete change of hyperventilation and you have automatically fixed your asthma. 

This change that got you started to hyperventilation and develop the problem in the first place, setting you up for asthma, may have been brought on by high stress levels, surprisingly even in children. 

Anxiety, etc. causing the original slipping into a pattern of developing a habit of uncalled for deeper more frequent breathing, (expelling too much carbon dioxide,) thereby bringing on asthma attacks. 

If is reported by some that when you fully 
implement this and succeed in stopping asthma totally, that you also seem to lose most of your allergies. 

We are looking into this further.

Basically, with the Buteyko method this involuntary hyperventilations is now being unlearned. What effect this has on other allergic reactions or response intensity to same, we have not fully determined to our satisfaction at this time.

However, it should be noted here, (no one else is telling you this) the retraining of your automatic system, does not have to be done MANUALLY by the Buteyko method. 

Buteyko may have discovered it forty years ago, as a cause and worked out their version of a fix, but have no monopoly on the concept of changing or reprogramming your breathing system control.

There are several other ways to accomplish the reprogramming and correction of your automatic breathing control.

This automatic, involuntary body control system, is basically out of your conscious control. Some refer to it as your subconscious, it runs on and makes its decisions on your bodies actions and reactions totally independent including stress reactions.

It was not too many years ago they did not think you could change your subconscious body controls... Now they have several ways, of doing it, some fast. 

Buteyko method of retraining of your automatic body control system is a slow manual repetitive, wear it down with repetition system exercises, from over 50 years ago.
